| Follow or lead? by Stijn Buiter, director Engagement & Futuring |
Since January this year, I have joined SURF as Director of Engagement and Futuring. After years of leading the start- and scale-up division across the Nordics, Baltics and Benelux at Amazon Web Services (where I've felt continuously connected and inspired by many types of ambitions and futures), I’ve made a conscious move to the collective heart of the Dutch research and education community. My personal mission? To strengthen public values, knowledge sharing, and fuel local innovation.
In an era of rapid technological shifts, we must actively shape our future rather than letting it happen to us. At SURF, we call this Futuring: using strategic foresight to make the right choices today. Whether it’s robotics, neuromorphic computing, or exploring Learning Experience Platforms (LXP), we look beyond the hype to the long-term societal impact and together define where we aspire to follow or lead. |
